The name "Miranda" comes from a Defendant's last name in a United States Supreme Court case called Miranda v Arizona. The Miranda case was appealed all the way to the United States Supreme Court and the decision in the case stands for the proposition that any person who is in custody and who is interrogated must first be read their Miranda Rights before their answers to custodial interrogation will be viewed as "non-coerced" and otherwise admissible as evidence at trial.
